Q: What should I expect during my first massage therapy visit?

A: You will fill out a health history form. Any conditions needing to be addressed will be discussed to determine that massage is appropriate. Assessments and testing to evaluate your conditon may be performed. General questions will be discussed to estabilsh which areas you would like worked on.

Q: What do I wear during a massage?

A: Depending on the technique being used, you may or may not need to undress. For a full body massage, most people undress completely. Some people choose to wear underwear. You may undress to the level you are comfortable with. You will always be given privacy to undress to your comfort level. You will be covered with a sheet and towel at all times except for the area being worked.

Q: How long do massage treaments last?

A: The average full body massage lasts for one hour. A hour and half massage allows for more time to work specific areas. A thirty minute massage is only a partial massage session, and only one or two areas will be focused on.

Q: What do I do during a massage session?

A: Relax. Make your self comfortable. The therapist will adjust your position or ask you to move if needed. You may change your position at anytime to make yourself more comfortable. Some people prefer to close their eyes and relax or sleep or some prefer to talk, it is your massage so it is whatever you prefer. Always communicate with the Therapist about the pressure. If the massage is too deep or too light let your therapist know. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time.

Q: How does a massage feel?

A: It depends on the technique. For example: Swedish will have broad, flowing strokes. Deep tissue will be slower deeper strokes. During a trigger point session, pressure will be applied. Lotion is used for most of the techniques.

Q: How will I feel after a massage? What should I do after a massage?

A: Most people feel relaxed. Some experience decrease pain and increased motion. Days after a massage you may experience increased energy, heightened awareness, greater productivity, decreased aches and pains, increased flexibility and much more.

Toxins are released from soft tissue during a massage, so it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage. If soreness occurs, it is recommended to apply ice to sore area. Ice should be applied for 15 minutes.
